“Innocent Yoga?” – Dr. John Ankerberg & Dr. JohnWeldon – A well-researched paper from the Ankerberg Theological Research Institute (www.ankerberg.com) based on New Age and Yoga sources.   The story contained in the article about a woman named Carole is indicative of a kundalini awakening experience.  PDF file of “Innocent Yoga?”

Groothuis, Douglas,  Confronting the New Age, Intervarsity Press, 1988   pp.  76-84. This subchapter of the book focuses on the Spiritual Dangers of New Age practices with a background on the development of the Spiritual Emergence Network a New Age referral network to help those undergoing kundalini awakening symptoms. Koch, Kurt E. Occult Bondage and Deliverance – Counseling the Occultly Oppressed,  Kregel Publications, 1970, pp 155 -159.  Describes a thirty-year-old woman, labeled Example 3, who described many physical and other subjective symptoms especially auditory and feelings of electricity that are similar to kundalini awakening experiences.  Interestingly, the author diagnosed this particular case as being schizophrenia, not demonic oppression.

MacNutt, Francis  Deliverance from Evil Spirits – A Practical Manual, Chosen Books, 1999, pp 281-288.  Interview with Fr. Rufus Pereira in Appendix 2 on pages 281-288 describes Fr. Pereira’s ministry in India to several people who are oppressed by spirits after involvement with Hinduism and Transcendental Meditation (TM).

Regner, Valerie A.  Reexamining Christian Conversion Experiences: Considering Kundalini Awakenings and Spiritual Emergencies, Dissertation presented to the Claremont School of Theology, May 1998.   Describes the dissertation author’s conversion to Christianity and her kundalini symptoms.  Also presented are three additional case studies and an extensive analysis of the spiritual dynamics from psychodynamic, transpersonal psychology, and Hindu perspectives.
